LPG e-KYC: How to Complete It Online and Offline (2026 Rule)
Since 1 October 2026, LPG e-KYC through biometric Aadhaar authentication has been compulsory for booking a domestic cylinder at the subsidised price. If you have already done it, you do not need to do anything; the government says 27.43 crore consumers (89.9%) had completed it by 19 September. If you have not, your next subsidised refill will be enabled only after authentication. Here is how to finish LPG eKYC online, the offline options, what happens if you skip it and the rules for Ujjwala households.
What the LPG e-KYC rule says
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas set out the rule in a PIB release on 19 September 2026:
- From 1 October 2026, domestic consumers need completed Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) to book refills at the regulated retail selling price with the applicable subsidy.
- Consumers who have already completed BAA do not need to repeat it.
- For those who have not, subsidised booking is enabled once authentication is done.
- Those who do not want to authenticate can still buy LPG, but at market price, without subsidy, in 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders, subject to local availability.
The deadline was first set for 30 June 2026 and extended seven times before the 1 October cut-off took effect.
Why the government is insisting on it
The ministry says linking each connection to an Aadhaar-authenticated person stops subsidised domestic cylinders from being diverted to commercial use and removes duplicate or ineligible connections. The money involved is large: the implicit subsidy was around ₹210 per 14.2 kg cylinder in September 2026 and reached ₹721 in June 2026, and accumulated under-recoveries of public sector oil companies on domestic LPG crossed ₹62,000 crore as on 31 August 2026, according to the same release.
How to do LPG eKYC online at home
Self e-KYC uses a face scan, so you do not need a fingerprint device. The official PMUY e-KYC page links to the apps and has English and Hindi help videos. The process is free.
- Install your oil company’s app: IndianOil ONE for Indane, HelloBPCL for Bharatgas, or HP PAY for HP Gas.
- Install the Aadhaar FaceRD app from the Play Store or App Store. The company app uses it to capture your face.
- Log in with the mobile number registered with your LPG connection.
- Open the e-KYC or Aadhaar authentication option and follow the prompts.
- Take a live face scan in good light, without glasses or a mask, holding the phone at eye level.
- Submit and check the status in the app. Mint reports that approval usually comes within 24 to 48 hours.
The authentication must be of the person in whose name the connection stands. If your mobile number is not registered with the distributor, or the name on the connection does not match Aadhaar, fix that at the distributor first. Face authentication works much like the system pensioners use for their digital life certificate, so the same tips apply: steady phone, plain background and good light.
Offline options: delivery person or distributor
If you do not have a smartphone, or the face scan keeps failing, the PIB release lists two other routes:
- At the time of delivery: the delivery person can complete authentication on the spot using the oil company’s app.
- At the distributor’s showroom: visit your LPG distributor with your Aadhaar and complete it there.
The toll-free helpline 1800 2333 555 can help with service questions. The PMUY portal lists 1906 as the LPG emergency helpline.
What happens if you do not complete it?
Your gas supply is not cut off, but the subsidised price is. Until authentication is complete, you cannot book a 14.2 kg refill at the regulated price. If you do not want to authenticate at all, you have to register that choice on your oil company’s portal, app, WhatsApp chatbot or IVRS. You will then get LPG at market price, without subsidy, in 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders, depending on availability.
Special rules for Ujjwala (PMUY) households
For Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries, authentication is linked to the targeted subsidy of ₹300 per cylinder. As explained by The Tribune:
- PMUY beneficiaries need to complete biometric authentication once every financial year to get the ₹300 subsidy on their eighth and ninth refills.
- Refills continue even if authentication is pending. The subsidy is paid up to the seventh refill and then pauses.
- Any pending subsidy is released once e-KYC is completed before the financial year ends.
- A beneficiary who authenticates once in a financial year does not need to do it again that year.

Beware of fake LPG KYC calls and links
Every deadline brings a wave of fraud. Callers pose as gas agency staff and say your connection will be blocked unless you share an OTP, install an app from a link or pay a “KYC fee”. Remember:
- e-KYC is free and is done only through the official oil company apps, the delivery person’s app or the distributor.
- No genuine agency will ask for your OTP, UPI PIN or card details for KYC.
- Do not install screen-sharing or APK files sent on WhatsApp.
If a caller turns threatening, read our explainer on the digital arrest scam and report the call on 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in.
LPG cylinder price: what to watch on 1 November
Oil companies review commercial LPG prices on the first day of every month. Mint reports that the domestic 14.2 kg cylinder has not been revised since 7 June 2026 and costs ₹942 in Delhi, while the 19 kg commercial cylinder was ₹2,810 in Delhi in October. The November rates will be known only when the oil companies announce them, and domestic prices vary by city, so check your company’s app before booking. With food costs already squeezing households, as our report on the sugar price spike shows, keeping your refill at the subsidised rate matters.

Is LPG e-KYC mandatory?
Yes, for subsidised domestic refills. Since 1 October 2026, refills at the regulated price need completed biometric Aadhaar authentication.

No. The ministry says consumers who have completed authentication do not need to repeat it. PMUY beneficiaries, however, authenticate once each financial year for the ₹300 subsidy on the eighth and ninth refills.
How can I do LPG eKYC online?
Install your oil company’s app (IndianOil ONE, HelloBPCL or HP PAY) and the Aadhaar FaceRD app, log in with your registered mobile number and complete the face scan.
