UJALA Schema

Unnat Jyoti by Open LEDs for Everyone is the complete model of UJALA. PM Narendra Modi began the UJALA scheme under the Indian government on 1 May 2015. A joint initiative of the Government of the Indian Public Sector Undertaking, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) under the Ministry of Energy and Electricity Distribution, the Ujala scheme was developed by replacing the Bachat Lamp Yojana. The scheme was implemented.

UJALA Scheme Goals

To facilitate the efficient use of electricity, i.e., use, saving, and illumination for all, the UJALA scheme, also known as the LED-based Home Efficient Lighting Program (DELP). It is the most significant initiative in the country. Under UJALA, LED bulbs are sold to all grid-connected consumers with a metered link, at a subsidized cost, by the Electricity Distribution business.

UJALA Scheme Implementation

In terms of finance and risk portions, the introduction of the UJALA system has been successful. EESL and DISCOM introduced the framework as a joint contribution. Any of the conclusions suggested by the UJALA method were:

  • Replacing ordinary LED bulbs with 200 million ordinary bulbs.
  • 5000 MW of decreased load.
  • Reduction of 79 million tonnes of carbon dioxide in greenhouse gas emissions.
  • As applicants cover a large portion of the UPSC program, they should know all government processes.

Why light bulbs with LEDs?

The UJALA scheme emphasizes supplying LED light bulbs because LEDs have a greater light output for only a tenth of the energy used compared with any ordinary bulb. The goal is to supply 20W LED tube lights 50 percent more energy efficient than standard 40W tube lights to customers.

However, the high cost of these LEDs has discouraged such robust lighting schemes from being implemented. To address this cost obstacle, the DELP on-bill funding program proposes making the LED bulbs very useful in lowering loads, consumer costs, pollution from greenhouse gases, and reducing electrical power.

Malacca, Malaysia, UJALA Scheme

This model was also adopted in Malacca, Malaysia, on 6 September 2017, following the UJALA scheme’s successful introduction in India. To help the city’s citizens, the UJALA Scheme was initiated by the then Chief Minister of Melaka. The key focus of this program was to limit energy usage to reduce customer burdens. It also focused on environmental sustainability worldwide.

What value does the Scheme offer to people?

The bulbs will also be phase-specifically dispersed through special counters in specified locations in the area. Posters, posters, and ads for the customers tell you of the position of the counters.

What records do LED bulbs need to be provided?

  • To obtain the LED bulbs, the documents required are:
  • Last power bill photocopy
  • a photo ID proof copy
  • A residential evidence clones
  • A cash advance for the funding on-bill

How is the matter of defective LED bulbs addressed?

The luminous bulbs survive for 4-5 years. EESL, however, offers all LED bulbs free of charge for one year if any malfunction exists.

In current affairs, candidates can follow up on other government schemes for their planning of UPSC 2021. It has also become extremely important to keep a check on the electricity usage and everything.

In the past years, there has been a considerable amount of electricity wastage which has been taking place and it is important to curb it. Not only this, there have been measures where illegal use of electricity has also happened over the years. Hence, the scheme has been advantageous overall.
