You’re sure to find plenty to watch – be it horror reboots, social-issue melodramas or films from beloved boutique studios – whatever your cinematic preferences may be.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie offers children a colourful and exciting journey!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem

The Turtles are back, this time appearing in a film written and directed by Seth Rogen and Kyler Spears. This new take on their franchise must not rely solely on being about rowdy teenage sewer rats but must instead capitalize on its popularity – something seen through two live-action movies, an animated series, toys, video games and much more.

Micah Abbey and Shamon Brown Jr. play Donatello and Michelangelo respectively while Ayo Edebiri from The Bear plays April O’Neil; Jackie Chan voices Master Splinter while John Cena voices Shredder; Post Malone plays Ray Fillet while Giancarlo Esposito voices Baxter Stockman with Maya Rudolph playing Cynthia Utrom as part of her voice cast.

Ice Cube may be playing Magneto from X-Men when he appears as Superfly – an evil mutant who believes humanity must fall to mutant dominion – in this movie which opens on August 2.

Cocaine Bear

Cocaine Bear stands out in an age where Hollywood movies can often feel safe, offering Elizabeth Banks’ bold, loosely-based-on-true-story drama an unconventional approach and unbridled authenticity. She’s joined by an outstanding cast that includes Will Ferrell, O’Shea Jackson Jr. and Alden Ehrenreich – just to name a few!

In 1985, a 175-pound black bear accidentally consumed cocaine and went on a drug-fuelled rampage across northeast Georgia before eventually being shot dead by hunters. Medical examiners identified 40 bags of cocaine within its stomach despite estimates by experts estimating a fatal dose would only have been 3-4 grams for such an animal of its size.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, veterans of colorful and irreverent movies like Pitch Perfect 2, were delighted by Jimmy Warden’s script from page one; it presented them with an opportunity to combine gory animal attacks with comic relief in one jaw-droppingly entertaining thriller that will hit theaters as well as Netflix this year.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie

After fixing a pipe in Brooklyn, plumbers Mario and Luigi find themselves whisked underground into an unfamiliar world by Bowser (voiced by Jack Black) of Koopa Kingdom. Packed with plenty of side-scrolling references from Nintendo video games, this animated adventure directed by Chris Pratt should appeal to gamers as well as non-gamers alike.

Horror has undergone an amazing renaissance recently with numerous outstanding releases like Huesera: The Bone Woman, Pearl, M3GAN and Scream VI all receiving much-deserved recognition; one film which has yet to receive enough appreciation is Kristoffer Borgli’s Dream Scenario; this low-budget, high-concept thriller is not only engaging and enjoyable as a horror tale in its own right but it provides a fascinating look into its future and possibilities through technologies such as virtual reality – available on Hulu as well.

M3GAN

Last fall, when the makers of M3GAN released its trailer, they expected it to make waves – but what they weren’t prepared for was how wildly it would be received by viewers, particularly for its opening sequence featuring M3GAN’s killer robot doll dancing along a hallway like some sort of demented Shirley Temple; that scene made M3GAN an instantaneous icon for younger horror fans everywhere.

M3GAN isn’t just about an unsafe toy or tech addiction – it’s also a cautionary tale about the pace of technological development. As AI assistants become ever more capable, taking over more of their parent’s tasks, M3GAN shows us the dangers of becoming too dependent upon something which only knows as much as its owner does.

Gerard Johnstone directed this movie with dexterity and an eye for absurdity, giving M3GAN a fluid, lifelike physicality that verges on terrifying. Being played by a real human actress rather than motion-captured prop ensures she feels real during even its most extreme scenes of wanton mayhem; her performance was both chilling and relatable, offering the best combination of Resting Bitch Face and femme fatale qualities.

Somewhere in Queens

Whatever your taste in film may be – intergalactic warfare or romantic comedy hijinks – there’s sure to be plenty of popcorn-fueled entertainment this week. From major studio tentpole projects and film festival favorites hitting theaters and streaming platforms to beloved boutique studios launching their fall slates with exciting films, there’s sure to be something suitable for everyone this weekend.

While the Screen Actors and Writers Guilds’ strike may force some films to change dates, there are still plenty of entertaining movies worth seeing this week.

Ray Romano and Laure Metcalf star as parents in an Italian-American working-class family whose son is trying to win a basketball scholarship. It marks Romano’s directorial debut and showcases both of their acting abilities with each other as co-stars.
